Great post! it’s amazing to me that existentialists see life as pointless as this cube. This is one philosophy I really want to study more because how can anyone have such a hopeless vieiw of life. Sysiphus endlessly pushing a rock up a hill only to watch it fall down again. It’s almost like they are projecting their own failures onto the world and saying, “No, no it’s not me that is deficient it is the world that is absurd!”

I think your hitting the button on the head about the meaning behind their words. However, who is right and who is wrong can not be answered because the truth lies somewhere between both their beliefs. There are things we can’t control that hold us down. And those who do hold us down are not omnipotent as a lot of conspiracy theorist might think. Theirs a lot of paranoia going around about the “powers that be”, but like Micheal Tsarion says, “Have you been sold a lie, or did you buy a lie”. Thats the difference… So, we the people are just as much to blame for our laziness as those who hold us down for the gain of power. We are just as lazy as they are evil. So you need to point more then one finger. Point to the bankers with one hand, and a mirror with the other. We’re the ones who bleed for them, but don’t we make that choice? We need to hold our selfs accountable too.

One other P.S. — the hand tells us nothing about the authenticity of the shot. As a former football goalie, I can tell you that after only a handful free drops to the ground, you lose your fear of it. If the solders were clowning around and pretending to be shot all afternoon, it would be expected they’d get good at it, and also would have lost the “instinctive” fear of the ground that would cause them to stiffen their hand. I’ve discovered this myself. I’m not saying the shot is fake or real — only that the forensic “evidence” of the hand completely ignores the power of humans to adapt

Just found this thought-provoking post in a Google search as I read a book about Capa. I just wanted to say: The reason we must care if the photo is real is precisely because we can be affected so deeply by staged events. If we are affected by staged events, those who seek to influence our opinions can stage events to take advantage of our emotional response.
